7th Grade

 7th Grade culture focuses on reinforcing DSST's core values and working on emerging leadership skills.

8th Grade

 8th Grade culture focuses on preparing for the transition to high school by gradually    adding rights to 8th graders as they earn them including  "quiet"   instead of "silent" hallways, using the high school dress code instead of middle school uniforms and other rights. 8th grade students must earn these rights by demonstrating a high level of DSST core values accross their cohort. For example, to earn "quiet" hallways, the 8th grade cohort had to demonstrate   that     less than 5% of them earn refocus on a weekly basis. 8th graders who do not uphold the DSST core values may lose some of these new rights and then need to earn them back.
