DSST: College View Parents and Guardians,
Thank you for all your work and support with our move this last weekend. As you know, moving can often be disruptive to students and staff members, but because of your support and help to make this move as seamless as possible we had an excellent first week in our new building!
I wanted to remind parents of a few important elements to our community at DSST: College View. These are the accountability and supports we establish with all students. As you know, it is not just a school that makes a child successful, but it is your involvement and support that help us to make every student successful. Please take the time to read over the following to help us get back in to the swing of things after our fall break this week.
Parent and Advisory Communication:
Please be sure that you and your student’s advisor are in constant contact over the course of the school year. This will ensure that we’re doing everything we can to help your student succeed. The relationship and communication channel that you and the advisor develop have one of the greatest impacts on your student’s success.
Follow Up on After School Interventions:
As you know, students receive College Pre p and Refocus when they do not meet academic or behavioral expectations. It is important that we work with you to ensure that students understand the importance of avoiding CP and RF, and doing their best during the school day.
Refocus Follow-Up:
3 Refocus’ in a Trimester: Call home
5 Refocus’ in a Trimester: In-person meeting with the advisor
7 Refocus’ in a Trimester: In-person meeting with advisor and the Dean of Students
10 Refocus’ in a Trimester: In School Suspension
Drop Off and Pick Up:
Our top priority is student safety and the drop off and pick up is one off the most challenging times to ensure that our students are safe. Please abide by the following when dropping off and picking up your student each day.
- Have a plan. Know how, when, and where you will drop off and pick up your student each day. School starts at 7:45am each day and ends at 4pm or 2:45pm (Wednesdays). Students who are outside 15 minutes after dismissal will be sent inside to the College Prep room to complete their homework so that they may be supervised. This means that the adult picking them up will have to park and come into the building to pick up their student.
- During pick up and drop off, the road in front of the school is ONE WAY. Please only drop off students driving from the West direction. You must then continue around the campus to exit.
- You may not turn around in the middle of the street or parking lots G and H in front of DSST.
- Colorado Heights University has warned us that will begin ticketing for failure to abide by these rules when picking up your students.
Front Office:
For payment, purchasing uniforms, or other similar items, please do so between 8:00am and 3:50pm. Before or after these times, the front office sees a large volume of traffic and our first priority is making sure students safely get to the right places, especially after school. This will really help Mr. Quinones be able to give you his full attention and serve your needs.
Community is at the core of DSST and it takes all students, parents, and staff to make sure DSST is a great place to learn. Thank you for your commitment and continued support of our students and our school.
