One of the first events many DSST visitors, prospective parents, students and staff witness is the cultural phenomenon we know as Morning Meeting. At 8:00am, every day of the week except Wednesdays, DSST students across the network gather in groups to begin their day.
Many of you know that I am an avid reader—and I am particularly interested in learning lessons from leaders of other successful organizations. I’ve been reading “In the Plex: How Google Thinks, Works, and Changes our Lives ,” lately and reflecting on some of the themes that are applicable to our work at DSST.

Last week’s poll revealed quite a bit about the way our staff here at DSST roots for football. We’ve got a diverse group of fans, and some in particular that, judging by their comments, have unique perspectives as sports fans. As the young students in the middle school learn about Christopher Columbus exploring lost seas, Mr. Neubrand, a science teacher, rocks out at the end of the day when he teaches guitar club. Mr. Neubrand and several other students, Emmelt, Nate, Victoria, Ned and a few other students, improve their guitar skills and learn to play new songs. Most students in Mr. Neubrand’s class love to play with the electric guitar, while others like Victoria and Ned play with the Acoustic and bass. Many students say that this club helps them improve on their talent and teamwork with others. Here are a few students that rock out with Mr. Neubrand in Guitar Club .
