DPS Approves 4 New DSST Schools
Last night was a great night for DSST Public Schools and for thousands of students across Denver. The Denver Public School Board approved two new charter applications submitted by DSST for two more middle schools and two more high schools. Campus 6, opening in 2014 will be located in the Conservatory Green neighborhood of Stapleton (north of I-70). Campus 7, site yet to be determined, is tentatively slated to open in 2015. Both campuses will begin with middle school and grow one grade per year through high school.
DSST's mission is to end educational inequity in Denver. Last night was a great step forward in fulfilling our mission. These two new campuses will expand DSST's Vision 2020 plan from building five campuses and 10 schools by the year 2020, to opening seven campuses and 14 schools. By the year 2022, DSST Public Schools expects to have more than 6500 students enrolled. With all 14 schools, nearly 1 in 5 secondary students in Denver (grades 6-12) will be attending a DSST school. At full build out, the seven DSST high schools will graduate 700 students collectively each year, helping Denver Public Schools double the number of four-year college ready graduates from the time we started to grow in 2009.
Thanks to each of you for your continued support for our mission. Our work is truly transforming this city one student, one family and one neighborhood at a time.
